558,719. Hydraulic presses; metal working presses. T. I. (GROUP SERVICES), Ltd., and REYNOLDS, E. A. Nov. 9, 1942, No. 15813. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A hydraulic press comprises a main cylinder and ram g operating a platen f and two additional axially adjustable platens m, t one of which carries a movable member x operable in both directions by rams w carried by the platen. Platens m and t are adjustable along screws e by means of nuts p engaging the screws and rotatable by worms o driven by a chain q from handwheel r.. In performing an upsetting operation on a tube, the tube is supported between a mandrel or platen f and a die on platen m which may be heated. A second mandrel carried by platen t projects into the lower end of -the tube and pressure is applied by ram g. An intermediate part of the tube may be thickened by supporting it between platens f, t, the die being carried by platen m. For a drawing or extruding operation, ram g forces the tube or metal through a die or platen m, and if desired through a further drawing die on platen t.
