Abstract

556,205. Controlling fuel supply. MARCHANT, W. D. July 20, 1942, No. 10079. [Class 7 (iii)] The flow of fuel to an engine is controlled by means adapted to break down periodically the air pressure causing the flow of fuel through a predetermined period of angular movement of the crank. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, fuel is supplied from a float chamber to a jet 17 controlled by a needle 20 which is connected for simultaneous operation with an air throttle slide 21, the periodic break-down in the fuel supply being caused by venting a passage 15 to atmosphere through a rotary valve 14, which periodically connects a slot 32 adjacent the passage 15 with the open end 31 of the valve casing. A governor 34 on the valve spindle operates a bell crank 36, 37 connected by a rod 38 to the slide 21. At a certain speed the arm 37 and slide are raised by an amount limited by a stop 42 on a lever 41 connected to the accelerator, a cam 39 being provided to ensure a positive lifting of the arm 37. In a modification, Fig. 5, passages 43, 44 leading from the jet 17 and the top of the float chamber 9, respectively, are periodically connected by a rotary valve 14.
