Abstract

1536. Jorgensen, O. E. Jan. 20. Regulating delivery by opening suction valves.- In multi-cylinder internal-combustion engines in which each cylinder has a separate fuel pump, the suction valve e of which is rendered inoperative at certain speeds during part of the stroke by means of a governor-controlled rod g and tappet f, the fuel supply is cut off altogether at a predetermined speed and is re-established only at a lower predetermined speed. The rod g is pivoted to a lever h connected to the governor and is oscillated by the movement of the pump plunger c. To the usual arrangement is added a spring-pressed detent j<1>, a projection j<2> on the rod g and a disengaging collar k<1>. The parts are shown in the position at which, on the rod being raised, the detent engages the projection j<2>. The detent is tripped by the governor-operated collar k<1>. In a modification, the detent is moved in both directions by collars on the rod k and the projection j<2> is pivoted and spring- pressed.
