Abstract
555,509. Metal-vapour converters. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Oct. 24, 1941, No. 13710. Convention date. Nov. 11, 1940. Addition to 555,116. [Class 39-(i)] The potentials of the metal shields 6 employed according to the parent Specification for controlling the electrical field inside the hollow anodesupporting insulator of a high voltage converter are controlled from a separate source, various methods being indicated in the Figure. Thus, the shields may be connected to tappings on a resistance capacity, or inductive potential divider 12, 12a, 12b respectively, fed from the rectifier transformer or a separate transformer 13. Potential rings 14 surrounding the insulator may be connected to the source of potentials and the shields. Alternatively, the shields may be connected to taps on a potential-divider formed by a covering of insulating material 11 on the outer or inner wall of the insulator, or the insulator may be at least in part of poorly-conductive material to form the potential divider.
