Abstract
554,811. Reversible lifeboats; propeller shafts, arrangements of. GASKIN, H. A. Aug. 12, 1942, No. 11295. [Classes 113 (ii) and 114] In a reversible lifeboat of the double deck type, water-tight compartments 21, 22 extending up to the top of the coaming 28 are provided at the stem and stern, and the ends of both decks 14, 15 are curved up to the tops of the compartments. The tops of the latter also curve upwardly to the ends of the stem and stern posts. A propeller 50 driven by an an engine 37 located in the space between the decks is carried on a Cardan shafts 41 the inclination of which may be altered by a screwed rod 44 operated by hand-wheels 49 in accordance with which deck lies uppermost. The boat also includes internal buoyancy tanks, valve-controlled air-escape and water drainage tubes 27, and an external belt of buoyancy tanks.
