554,512. Pipe and like joints. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and RANDLES, W. A. Jan. 5, 1942, No. 147. [Class 99 (i)] A joint for connecting pipe or other tubular sections comprises flange members 3 provided on the pipes 2 and formed with external conical faces 7 engaged by an encircling grooved or flanged clamping-ring 9 so as to draw faces 6 on the members 3 into fluid-tight contact, lateral spreading of the sides of the ring 9 being limited by abutments 8 on the members 3. The members 3 are preferably attached to the pipes by welding at 4, 5. The ring 9 is formed in sections connected by tangential bolts. In modifications, the faces 6 may be grooved, and a U-shaped sealing-ring may be fitted in the recess formed by the grooves.
