Abstract
554,129. Concentrating ores. KNAPP & BATES, Ltd., and KNAPP, E. A. Dec. 13, 1941, No. 16108. [Class 82 (ii)] - In a process for concentrating cassiterite, the latter is flocculated in a slightly alkaline, neutral or slightly acid water pulp of the ground ore either by the addition of an anionic-active reagent, (not including ordinary soap) and an unsaponifiable oil or by the addition of a cationic active reagent and oil and leaving the cassiterite particles dispersed, followed by agitation with or without the addition of air and concentrating in or on a gravity concentrating device. The treatment may also be applied to the treatment of wolfram or mixed wolfram-cassiterite ores to produce a mixed concentrate. With the addition of a collector reagent used for the flotation of sulphide the process may also be applied to the treatment of tin or tin-wolfram ores containing sulphides. Examples of anionic-active agents are the products sold under the Registered Trade Marks, "Sapamin" F.L, "Albatex" P.O, "Igepon," "Ultravon" and "Gardinol" and of cationic-active agents pyridinium salts having a long-chain fatty substituent, e.g. cetyl pyridinium bromide or tetra substituted ammonium salts such as cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide.
