Abstract

A crystalline apatite-calcite mixture is subjected to cationic flotation at a pH below 7,0 whereby the crystalline apatite is floated to produce a concentrate. The apatite-calcite mixture is preferably obtained from an apatite-silica-calcite mixture by anionic flotation at a pH above 7,0, the resulting apatite-calcite mixture being scrubbed in a weak acid before the cationic flotation. Examples are given of the beneficiation of Finnish, Transvaal and Ontario phosphates. The ores are preferably ground to less than 20 mesh with the slimes below 200 mesh being removed.
