Abstract

In a process for concentrating slime-producing ores, ores of uranium, vanadium or manganese by froth flotation, a flocculating agent, e.g. starches, glues, certain polysaccharides and high molecular weight (i.e. in excess of 200,000) polyacrylamides, is added to the flotation mixture to flocculate the slimes during flotation treatment, the floc being recovered from the froth as concentrate. The ore is first made into a pulp with water and the flocculating agent and any desired activators, promoters or pH adjusters are added before flotation treatment, although in some cases one or even all of the last three reagents may be dispensed with. Examples, with ore concentrations obtained from a Fagergren flotation machine, are given in the Specification and contain specific examples of flocculating agents, activators, promoters, and pH adjusters which may be used.
