Abstract
In a process for concentrating coal fines from ash a frothing agent is used which comprises a petroleum fuel oil containing, by weight, 0.1-30 per cent, preferably 5-20 per cent, of one or more alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts of naphthenic acids, cresylic acids or rosin acids. The coal fines and ash may be in the form of a slurry when the frothing agent is preferably present in an amount of 0.01-2 per cent by weight based on the slurry. The Provisional Specification also describes the concentration of other minerals and states that sulphonates may be used. Specifications 170,944, [Class 82 (ii)], 609,131 and 636,356 are referred to.
