[Class 97 (i)] In an objective of high aperture corrected for spherical aberration, coma, astigmatism, distortion, field curvature and chromatic aberration, and consisting of simple collective front and rear components around two inner compound dispersive meniscus components having concave surfaces facing one another, one dispersive component is a triplet having a middle positive element of glass having a refractive index lower than that of the outer elements. The refractive index of the middle element may be less than that of the other positive element of the component by .08 or more, and less than that of the negative element by 0.1 or more.
