Abstract
560,162. Lenses. BURCH, C. R., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 18, 1942, No. 13228. [Class 97 (i)] A singlet lens having a flat field and low residual astigmatism in the extended paraxial region when taking parallel light from the front is constructed so as to satisfy the conditions- R is not equal to gamma, the lens being aspherised on the back face alone to remove spherical aberration without changing the paraxial radius of curvature thereof ; in the above conditions, R r d L have the significances shown in the Figure, n equals the ratio of the refractive index N<1> of the lens material to the refractive index N of the surrounding medium, x equals d/r, and y equals L-d/R. A stop may be provided at a distance D in front of the pole of the front surface of the lens to correct for transverse chromatic abberation, the value of D being- Specification 558,657 is referred to.
