931,063. Optical objectives. C. ZEISS-STIFTUNG, [trading as C.ZEISS [Firm of]]. Nov. 14, 1960 [Nov. 25, 1959], No. 38960/60. Class 97 (1). A photographic objective consists of at least five components, has an angular field of more than 28 degrees and a back focal length of more than 0.90f. The part of the system in front of the diaphragm contains an air space of axial length between 0.18/ and 0.90f and the sum of the refractive powers of the surfaces in front of this air space is negative. Between this air space and the diaphragm space there is a biconvex collective component and beyond the diaphragm there are disposed a bi-concave asymmetrical dispersive lens having its surface of deeper curvature concave towards the diaphragm, a collective meniscus concave towards the diaphragm and an asymmetrical collective component of which the rear surface is of deeper curvature and is convex towards the rear. As shown in Fig. 1, the three components to the rear of the diaphragm are all simple lenses and the bi-convex collective component which separates the diaphragm space from the front air space of axial length d 2 is a doublet. The front lens in this example is a simple dispersive lens but in other forms this lens is replaced by two menisci concave towards the diaphragm. In one form the bi-concave collecting component separating the two air spaces is a simple lens, in this case the middle of the three rear lenses being a doublet having a collective cemented surface which is convex towards the diaphragm.
