Abstract

552,975. Vacuum cleaners. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 19, 1942, No. 8417. Convention date, June 24, 1941. [Class 8 (i)] The casing of a vacuum cleaner comprises a base element including side and top walls 25, 32 of a suction chamber the lower part 21, 21a of a fan chamber and a cradle 9, 10 for a horizontal motor, the motor-fan shaft extending into the suction chamber where it carries a driving belt for the agitator 23 ; a removal fan cover 29 is provided integral with a tongue 30 covering a slot in the wall 32 through which on removing the cover 29 the motor shaft can be lifted. The motor is supported in the cradle by rubber rings 13, 16 held in place by a strap 15 and by the cover 29. A lamp 36 is disposed above the wall 32 and is covered by a hood 33 with a slotted front lip directing the light. A plate 26 covers an aperture in the nozzle chamber provided for attachment of a converter tool.
