487,806. Vacuum cleaners. AIR - WAY ELECTRIC APPLIANCE CORPORATION. April 8, 1937, No. 9971. Convention date, April 13, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] A vacuum cleaner comprises a double fan 37 mounted on a shaft 40 enclosec in a sleeve 43 fixed to elbows 27 leading from the suction chamber, on which elbows the fan casing rotates with the attached propulsion handle 85. The elbows are detachable for the replacement of bearing parts. The fan is driven by belts 59 connecting pulley! 55 on the ends of the fan shaft with pulleys on the shaft 57 of the motor 56 which rests in a pit in the top wall of the body casting to which the elbows are secured; the motor also drives ar agitator 19 in the nozzle. Compart ments for the belts 59 are formed by the side walls 64 and periphery of a cover G, and by plates 65, 67. A covered aperture in one side wall of the cover allows access to the agitator belt The plate 65 has apertures by which air is drawn by an independent fan tc cool the motor. The fan casing has a division plate 36 cut away to allow the air streams to unite at the outlet, and a transverse cut-off plate, and leads to the mouth of the dust bag which is double and hangs from rods secured tc the handle. The handle is hollow to receive the current conductor, anc joined to the fan casing by an apron snapped into place. The rear wheels 93 are carried by a bracket mounted on a shaft held in rotatably adjustable position by a lever 97 bolted to a selected hole in a fixed bracket 100. A headlight H is provided.
