Abstract

552,901. Spinning and winding machines. RAMSEY, A. R. J. (U.S. Textile Machine Co.). Oct. 24, 1941, No. 13701. [Class 120 (ii)] In a machine in which yarn is delivered from a twisting spindle rotated at a constant speed and wound up on a roller rotated at constant yarnsurface speed, the yarn passes through a guide disposed substantially in alignment with the twisting spindle and the axial spacing of the guide from the spindle is automatically increased in predetermined and positive relation to the increase in diameter of the yarn mass on the take-up roller. As shown the yarn guide 12 is adjustably mounted on a lever 33 pivoted in and guided by the sides of a bracket 30 and carrying a pivoted cam lever 40 which engage 30 and carrying a pivoted cam.lever 40 which engages a projection 46 in the pivoted lever 18 carrying the roller R driven by the drum 22 and on which the yarn is wound. The lever 40 is adjustable by a set screw 45 and as the yarn builds up on the roller R the lever 18 moves away from the drum 22 against the action of a spring 20 and the projection 46 causes the guide 12 to move away from the spindle 10, thus controlling the yarn balloon and tension. In a modification the lever 40 is replaced by a cam block adjustable in the lever 33 ; the block may have a pair of differently shaped cam surfaces and may be reversed in the lever to give a different movement to the yarn guide.
