Abstract

551,346. R÷ntgen-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 9, 1941, No. 11491. Convention date, Sept. 10; 1940. [Class 39 (i)] In an X-ray tube the anode 19 carries a number of rectangular targets 13 any one of which can be brought opposite the linear cathode 25 to give varied rays, the tube being particularly designed for use in X- ray spectroscopic analysis ; as shown two targets are set in the anode, the centre face part of which forms a' third. The anode is supported by metal bellows 35 and is adjusted by screws 47, the anode end moving in a longitudinal slot in the yoke 45. A perforated screen 15 is carried on the cathode holder and lined glass windows 55 close projections from the tube body. The tube is surrounded near the windows by a split metal shield 61. Tungsten, molybdenum, copper, nickel, cobalt, iron or chromium may form the target material. Cooling medium is circulated by pipes 51 in the anode.
