Abstract

949,312. X-Ray tubes. HILGER & WATTS Ltd. June 10, 1960 [June 11, 1959], No. 20062/59. Heading H1D. A cathode assembly for an X-ray tube has a cathode filament 10 and a metal shield 11 forming a focusing slot 17 for the filament, both the filament and the edges of the slot being convex in the direction facing the working face of the anode 20. The metal shield may be provided with a duct for cooling water and the anode may be similarly cooled. In operation, the shield is biased negatively relatively to the filament. The dimensions and applied voltages are such that the filament provides at the anode a line focus having substantially even electron intensity along its length. Specification 701,050 is referred to.
