Abstract

550,422. Transformers. ABBEY, A. (Wilson Welder & Metals Co., Inc.). July 3, 1941, No. 8421. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a regulating transformer comprising relatively movable windings 27, 28, each winding comprises a group of coils surrounding different core legs 19 which extend between magnetic rings 12 formed of coiled strip, the different magnetic circuits being completed by additional core legs located between the coils. The core legs are formed by groups of laminations clamped between angle plates 21 welded to supporting pieces 25. The movable coils are supported on a spider 36 which is resiliently attached by bolts 40 to a pair of nuts 41 engaging a screwed operating spindle 16, the nuts being urged towards each other by springs 42, 44 on the bolts 40. The coils of the two groups may be connected for polyphase operation or they may be parallel-connected for single-phase operation.
