Abstract

550,333. Soldering irons. LEGG (INDUSTRIES), Ltd., B. J., and LEGG, B. J. July 3, 1941, No. 8395. [Class 39 (iii)] The copper bit A of a soldering iron is bored to receive a porcelain tube D containing a carbon or high resistance steel rod E which projects at its forward end into the bit. The rear end of the rod E is in contact with a steel rod F carrying an insulating block G pressed forward by a spring J. The rod F carries also a contact f co-operating with a contact m<SP>1</SP> on a rod M when a switch finger C is pressed forward against a spring P. The iron is used with a low-voltage supply. In Fig. 2, the forward end of the iron is similarly constructed but the current is derived from two fixed posts R, S. engaging respectively in a groove a<SP>2</SP> and in a recess t at the rear end of the rod F. The current is broken when the iron is lifted.
