Abstract

A carbon anode electrode for use in the fusion electrolysis of aluminium in a fluoride electrolyte has an electrically conducting iron peg in its head, and the peg is surrounded by an aluminium sleeve. The peg and sleeve are square in cross-section and are inserted in a correspondingly shaped recess in the head of the carbon rod.
