558,760. Electric soldering-apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., (trading as STANELCO PRODUCTS), and WARD, G. L. July 17, 1942, No. 9963. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] A short length of carbon tube is slit axially to form two half-tubes which are mounted on end in a holder. The upper ends are shrouded by a soldering disc, plate or jig, shaped to conform to the parts to be soldered, and which becomes heated when the carbons are in contact with the plate or jig. In another form, a carbon rod 11 mounted in a holder 12 is arranged in a metal tube 13 carrying a massive copper disc 14 forming a soldering plate which may be shaped to suit the parts to be soldered. The parts 13, 14 are pressed upward by springs 15 so that the disc 14 is not in contact with rod 11, but may be pressed into contact by slight pressure when the parts to be soldered are placed on the disc. Wear of the carbon is compensated by adjusting screws 17.
