Abstract
558,634. Electric soldering-irons. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., (trading as STANELCO PRODUCTS), and WARD, G. L. July 10, 1942, No. 9608. [Class 39 (iii)] An electric soldering-iron comprises a hollow insulating handle 1 containing the semicylindrical shanks of two stems 2, 4 which are separated by insulation 8. The stem 2 terminates in a ring 20 carrying the copper bit 18. The stem 4 terminates on a guide 21 for a carbon rod 13 extending into the bit in contact with a carbon block 19. A trigger 5 is pivoted at 16 and forked at the end to engage pins carried by the carbon rod holder 14, and the rod 13 is normally retracted by a spring 7. When the trigger is pressed towards the handle, the rod 13 is moved into contact with block 19 to close the heating circuit. The bit may alternatively 'be tubular as in Specification 558,643. A modification is described in which the bit is at right angles to the handle. Specification 123,266, [Class 83 (iv)], also is referred to.
