549,764. Envelopes. SALFISBERG, L. L. Jan. 13, 1942, No. 509. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1941. [Class 146 (ii)] In envelopes for containing powdered granular, &c. material comprising an opaque and a transparent sheet, which have their facing margins directly secured together along three sides, the opaque sheet 1 is extended beyond the transparent sheet 2, so as to provide a sealing-flap 8, which is folded over and secured to the transparent sheet. Imperfect sealing and an unsightly appearance due to the presence of particles of the material between the sheets, which is liable to occur when their adjacent edges are directly sealed together, is thereby avoided. The transparent material is preferably thermoplastic, or a thermoplastic coating is provided on it or on the opaque sheet, so that the envelope may be sealed by heat and pressure, with or without crimping. The inside margin of the transparent sheet may, in addition be sealed to the adjacent part of the opaque sheet, so that a double seal is formed.
