Abstract

549,409. Electrically-driven clocks. DRUMMOND, C. T. Sept. 4,1941, Nos. 11300 and 11301. [Class 139] A clock with an electrically maintainec pendulum has a main pendulum 1, Fig. 1, and an auxiliary or driving pendulum 5 connectec by a member formed ir three parts 7, 8 and 9 The part 7 is pivoted tc the main pendulum while the part 9 is mounted for limitec movement in an opening 17 in the auxiliary pendulum 5; the part 8 is formed as a hollow cylindrical ring with threaded rods 13, 14 adjustably engaging the parts 7 and 9. The part 8 has pivoted theretc a latch 18 for cooperation with a spring controlled switch 23 tc control the energizatior of an electromagnet 3( whereby an impulse is imparted through the armature 29 to the pendulum 5. A counterwieghted lever 31 at the upper end of the pendulum 5 actuates a wheel 35 driving the clock mechanism. The latch consists of a counterbalanced strip of metal 18 with a small metal insulated plate 19 at its free end. The switch consists of a casing with a spring controlled bolt 25 passing through an aperture in the cover 24. The spring is regulated by a screw 28.
