[Class 139] [Also in Group XXXVII] A time switch or like device operating under the control of a clockwise mechanism is so arranged that the whole of the clockwork mechanism or a sensitive part thereof, such as the escapement, is carried in a casing sealed off from the housing containing the device, but is in communication with the atmosphere. As shown in Fig. 1, a plate 4, supported on columns 3 on the base-plate 1 of the housing, carries the switch parts (not shown) and a casing 5 containing the clockwork driving mechanism and gearing. The gearing is connected by means 11, mounted in supports 6, to the escapement 10 which is carried in a casing 9 on the exterior of a plate 7. An aperture 12 in the casing 9 communicates with the atmosphere. As shown in Fig. 2, wherein the casing 9 and the escapement 10 is mounted within the housing, communication is made with the atmosphere through a tube 13 with a filter 14. In this. arrangement the escapement controls the clockwork mechanism in a casing 16. Alternatively, the whole of the clockwork mechanism can be arranged in the casing 9.
