Abstract
492,782. Weighing-apparatus. HUDSON & SONS, Ltd., A., and HUDSON, C. July 16, 1937, No. 19707. [Class 143] [Also in Group XL] Relates to automatic dial weighing-machines of the kind employing a pair of oppositely handed pendulums 1 symmetrically mounted and connected to a common equalizer bar 6 in turn connected by a rack bar 7 to the dial pointer. According to the invention, one of the pendulum levers has associated with it means whereby light from one or more suitably disposed lamps may be utilized to actuate an additional dial associated with the main dial and afford readings over and above those on the main dial. At the end of the first complete revolution of the dial pointer, a mask 8 uncovers a slit in the casing of a light-sensitive valve 9 to expose the valve to light from a lamp 10. The energization of the valve operates a switch 12 and completes the circuit of a solenoid 13 which then rocks the additional dial 16 so as to display through an orifice in the main dial an indication that the pointer has passed to the second revolution and a higher range of readings than those on the main dial must be taken. A weight 20 returns the additional dial when the solenoid is de-energized by masking of the light-sensitive valve. A switch 21 and transformer 22 are provided. The Provisional Specification describes also an arrangement wherein thermostats are used in conjunction with the lamps and masking plate to control the movements of the additional dial.
