Abstract
727,171. Electric weighing machines. EYRAUD, I., and EYRAUD, C. Oct. 28, 1952 [Nov. 5, 1951; Dec. 14, 1951], No. 27105/52. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] In a weighing-machine wherein the weight of a body 12 (Fig. 1) is balanced by the electromagnetic force exerted by a solenoid 7 energized by a current determined by a photo-cell 5 whose light input is controlled by a screen 2 attached to the weighing beam, the moving system is such that its centre of gravity is located on the fulcrum 19 by adjusting the position of a weight 20, so that equilibrium is fully determined by the current in coil 7 and is independent of the angular disposition of the beam. The current in'coil 7 is proportional to the weight of the body 12 and is measured across a series resistor 8. It may be augmented by a current proportional to its rate of change derived from the amplifying circuit (not shown) to provide damping. The coil 7 is preferably shaped so that the force on a core 18 is independent of the position of the core in the coil. The core 18 may alternatively be a coil fed with a constant current or with the same current as the main coil 7.
