Abstract
681,824. Electric measuring systems. PYRENE CO., Ltd. Jan. 18, 1951 [Jan. 18, 1950], No. 1351/50. Class 40 (i). A device for determining rate of change of acceleration comprises a mechanically unbalanced moving coil milliammeter movement in which the unbalance is effected e.g. by an additional weight 20 or by displacing the balance weights 18. If the device is accelerated e.g. in the direction of arrow 22 the coil will assume a position dependent on the acceleration, the inertia of the moving system and the strength of the return spring 10. Fluctuations in the acceleration will cause the angular position of the coil to vary and an e.m.f. will be generated proportional to rate of change of acceleration which may be measured by a galvanometer if necessary, after amplification, or be used to actuate an indicator when the rate exceeds a predetermined value. Two arrangements for calibrating the device are described Figs. 2, 3 (not shown). Specification 681,847, [Group XXXVII], is referred to.
