Abstract

1438667 Using movable light control member with a photo-sensitive bridge control H F EDWARDS and S F BOTTORF 2 July 1973 31517/73 Heading G1A In a bridge control circuit 20 containing a condition-responsive (temperature) transducer 30 and a photo-sensitive device 34 receiving light from a source 36, that has not been obstructed by a movable member 42, the bridge is retroactively balanced by a meter 22 (fed by two amplifiers one, 24 sensitive to the current flowing through the bridge, the other, 26 sensitive to any unbalance) which is mechanically connected to the movable member 42 and thereby alters the amount of light falling on the photo-sensitive device until the bridge is balanced. The meter is calibrated prior to the connection of the condition-responsive transducer 30. The description discloses many forms that the movable member 42 can take. The common feature of most of the movable members is an opaque wedge or crescent shaped portion surrounded by a transparent portion, such as a segment of the curved surface of a cylinder as shown in Fig. 1 (and Figs. 3, 4 and 5 not shown) or such as a crescent on a disc (Figs. 8, 11, 12, 13 and 19 not shown). Two further embodiments are disclosed (Figs. 6, 7, 9, 10 not shown) which involve the light being reflected off the movable member with the movable member consisting of an opaque light absorbing central portion surrounded by a light reflecting portion.
