572,554. Electric alarm clocks. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S. [formerly SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES), Ltd., S.], and RUSSELL, V. J. S. Oct. 15, 1943, No. 17002. [Class 118 (ii)] In an electric alarm clock having an electromagnetic alarm, e.g. a buzzer operated by an electromagnet 12, in series with the motor 20, e.g. a self-starting A.C. synchronous motor, driving the clock mechanism, adjustable means are provided for varying the inductance of the alarm device and hence the current through the motor. These means may comprise a screw 16 formed of magnetic material and adjustably secured in one limb of the core of the magnet so that by varying the distance between the end of the screw and the other limb the inductance is varied. The armature 17 may be mounted as described in Specification 571,082.
