Class 139 [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVIII] An electrically-operated warning mechanism comprises a synchronous motor 3 having two sets of interdigitating poles 8 whose ends are substantially coplanar and lie in a circle, a vibratory reed 5 formed from flat ferromagnetic material and having a ring-shaped portion 9 by which the reed is vibrated under the influence of the stray magnetic field of the poles in a direction normal to plane of the poles, and a cam mechanism driven by the motor 3 and so arranged as to initially hold the reed in a position B in which it is substantially unaffected by the field but to release the reed after a predetermined time to a position A in which it is vibrated by the field. The cam 11 is driven through a fractional connection not shown and a gearing 16, and has a snail periphery engaged by a portion 10 of the reed 5 to position the latter. The motor also drives conventional time-indicating hands not shown in relation to which the cam 11 can be adjusted. The reed may carry a resiliently-mounted hammer to strike a bell as it vibrates, may be adjusted by a screw 7, and has an upset portion 14 engageable by a part conical portion 13 of a plunger 12 depression of which moves the reed into an inoperative position.
