An electric timepiece comprises a balance wheel to which energy for starting and maintaining mechanical oscillations is imparted by a driving coil in a transducer, and an electric circuit for energizing the transducer with electric pulses the width of which, when starting the oscillations, is substantially greater than the width when the oscillations of the balance wheel are maintained in a stable state, said circuit including a detecting coil which detects the speed of the balance wheel. The transducer illustrated in Fig.1 comprises a lever 4 rotatable to and fro by an impulse pin 3 and a balance 1, and a magnet 6 rotatable with the lever 4 in gap in a yoke 11 of ferromagnetic material carrying drive and detecting coils 12, 13 arranged in an electric circuit as illustrated in Fig. 5. This is an astable oscillating circuit which oscillates, when the balance wheel is not oscillating, to generate electric pulses the width of which is dependent upon the charging time of a condenser 26 via a resistor 27, but which width is reduced when the balance wheel attains a predetermined amplitude to generate an induced voltage in the coil 13 which reduces the charging time of the condenser 26. Other circuits are described in which the coils 12, 13 are differently arranged.
