Abstract

549,340. Sulphur trioxide. ROBSON, S., GYLES, T. B., and NATIONAL PROCESSES, Ltd. July 14, 1941, No. 8875. [Class 1 (ii)] Sulphur trioxide is obtained by decomposing a mixture of a metallic sulphate, particularly calcium sulphate, and carbon on a blast roasting grate. The mixture is ground to about one eighth inch size and may be diluted with the residue of a previous operation. The sulphur trioxide can be directly condensed to form sulphuric acid.
