Abstract

554,163. Heat-treating steel. BRITISH ROLLING MILLS, Ltd., and MORRISON, G. B. Dec. 19, 1941, No. 16407. Addition to 539,894. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] In a free cutting steel according to the parent Specification, the steel contains 0.25-0.40 per cent. of sulphur, 1.12-1.9 of manganese and 0.2-0.4 of molybdenum, the carbon, silicon and phosphorus contents being unchanged. The steel after manufacture is heated to 860-880‹C, quenched in water or oil and tempered at 560-690‹ C.
