Abstract

In a method of manufacturing steel in a converter, the last part at least of the blowing is effected by means of a mixture of oxygen and steam superheated to 250 DEG C., the proportion of steam in the mixture being 30-40 per cent. by weight. The initial blowing may be carried out using air which may or may not be enriched with oxygen. Figures are given for equivalent quantities of scrap, lime, ores and additional steam which may be used. Specification 700,250 is referred to.
