Abstract

547,901. Linear-dimension gauges. COVENTRY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and GRINDLAY, R. R. March 15, 1941, No. 3579. [Class 106 (ii)] Relates to gauges in which a dial type indicator 11 is brought into engagement with the work situated on a work support in the base 13 of the gauge, and consists in providing a slidably mounted work receiving table 15 the coacting faces of the table and the base being inclined at a small angle to the operative face of the table to provide a fine adjustment. The table and base are both wedge-shaped and the table is flanged to engage against machined sides of the base which are provided with grooves having inclined upper edges which are engaged by the conical ends of screws passed through the flanges to secure the table when adjusted. Alternatively the coacting faces of the base and table 15 may be horizontal and the operative face of the table only inclined. A screw adjustment may be provided to move the table relatively to the base. A spring supported ball 22 is provided between the work and plunger 12 as in Specification 547,980.
