Abstract
567,234. Linear-dimension gauges. BAKER, E. A. G. March 15, 1943, No. 4195. [Class 106 (ii)] In a gauge of the kind having a graduated vertical pillar 1 secured to a base 3 and provided with a slider 2 to contact the workpiece, a vernier is marked on a thin strip 12 fixed to the slider, the marked surface of the strip being parallel to the marked surface of the pillar and the strip itself having a rectangular cross-section. The slider 2 is adjusted by a nut 6 on an auxiliary slider 5 and is locked in position by a screw 8 bearing on a spring 14 adjustable by a screw 16. The main slider 2 comprises a back plate, running behind the pillar 1, side pieces, and front plates 11, the strips 12 being inserted between the side pieces and the front plates. A detachable beak (not shown in Fig. 1) may be provided on a projecting portion of one of the slider side pieces. The pillar 1 is rectangular and is secured to the base by a nut 17 on a stub 4 formed on the pillar, D-shaped pieces being fixed to stub to give it a circular section. The slider 2 can readily be taken apart for regrinding to compensate for wear. Specification 282,708, [Class 106 (ii)], is referred to.
