Abstract
547,513. Typewriters. POTTER, C. W. July 4, 1941, No. 8476. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1940. [Class 100 (iv)] Sheet-feeding arrangements.-The carriage 16 of a typewriter is provided with an inclined shelf 30 with a ledge 46 for supporting a pile of sheets 40, a yielding member such as a pivoted flap 50 pressing on the lower edge of the sheets, and a friction-device 60 for raising the top sheet until it clears the flap, and then releasing the sheet. In the preferred construction, a pad 60 is carried by a spring-urged arm 52 pivoted to arms 54 on a shaft 56 which is mounted in flanges 36 on the shelf and is provided with an operating-knob, and a stop-finger for limiting rotation. When the knob is turned backwards, the pad pushes the top sheet upwards until it clears the flap 50. On return of the knob, the pad starts downward movement of the sheet, and is then released. A guide 82 directs the sheet into the space between the platen 18 and the table 20. One of the flanges 36 is laterally adjustable. The knob for the shaft 56 may be replaced by a crank and pedal. Single sheets, or assemblies of sheets and carbon papers bound together at the front edge may be employed.
