Abstract

443,167. Printing-machines. DAWSON, PAYNE, & ELLIOTT, Ltd., and STOTT, E., Atlas Works, Otley, Yorkshire. Oct. 24, 1934, No. 30436. [Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii)] The sheet-feed mechanism for a stop cylinder flat-bed printing-machine is constructed so as to afford larger space than is usually provided between the periphery of the cylinder 1 and the edge of the feed board 3 so that as the sheet is drawn off the board it is bent through only a very obtuse angle so as to come into contact with the cylinder tangentially. The board 3 is provided with a plate-like front extension 4 carried by pivoted brackets 5 normally maintained by springs 9 in line with the back portion of the board 3. In the sheetreceiving position of the board a lifter bar 3x is in its lowered position and the part 4 and front stops 11 fixed to it are supported well clear of the cylinder 1. The bar 3x then raises the board with the registered sheet thereon into contact with the edge 14 of a gap in the cylinder, and grippers 2 which pass through slots 12 in the plate 4 grip the sheet. The cylinder then rotates and the plate 4 is depressed by the action of a cam on a roller 8 carried by the bracket 5, and the sheet is drawn off along a path 13 which is substantially tangential to the cylinder, the extension 4 being clear of the sheet. An anti-creasing device comprising a bar 15 supported by an adjustable dustcollecting tray 17 acts on the sheets to facilitate the feed. To the bar 15 are attached movable friction pieces 16 which act on the margins of the sheets. Specification 348,890 is referred to.
