Abstract
543,834. Coating aluminium &c. with nickel. RAUSSER, E. Oct. 14, 1941, No. 13239. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 27, 1941.] [Class 41] Relates to the coating of aluminium and alloys thereof with nickel. The articles are first treated in a degreasing bath of dilute caustic soda containing 6 to 10 per cent of common salt at a temperature of 30-35‹ C. until a strong evolution of gas results, removed from the bath and washed, followed by immersion in a cold dilute solution of an iron salt containing sulphuric acid for five minutes, further washing, and treatment with a 3 per cent solution of ferrous chloride at 30‹ C. for up to eight minutes. They are then electroplated in a bath of high nickel content containing in addition to the usual ingredients a salt of citric acid such as sodium citrate, at a temperature of up to 35‹ C., a current density of 2-3.5 amperes per square decimetre being employed.
