Abstract
542,721. Buffing and draft gear. SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G., and GLASCODINE, R. K. Feb. 10, 1941, No. 1810. [Class 103 (v)] Central buffing and draft gear for railway vehicles comprises a pair of springs 1 and 2, arranged tandemwise within a yoke (not shown) between the centre sills and consisting of bar-type india-rubber units with intermediate separating plates, and front and rear followers 3 and 4 for the front spring 1, the rear follower 4 being formed as a stirrup whose arms 13 embrace the rear spring 2 and its followers 5 and 6 the follower 6 co-operating with the arms 13 by spigots 15 and 16 taking into holes in the follower, and the follower 5 having a central pin 7 projecting through the spring 1 and connected by bolts 10 to the follower 3. To link the parts into a self-contained unit a spindle 19 passes from the follower 5 to the follower 6 and is secured by a head 22 and nut 23; the unit so obtained is positioned in the rectangular aperture of the yoke and placed between the centre sills of the vehicle with its ends in contact with the sill abutments.
