Abstract

524,790. Combined buffing and draw-gear for vehicles. WAUGH EQUIPMENT CO. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 4078. Convention date, Feb. 17, 1938. [Class 103 (v)] In a combined buffing and draw-gear for railway vehicles of the kind in which separate springs 21, 21a of the compound rubber and metal plate type are disposed in tandem and adapted respectively to absorb the draught and buffing shocks, the coupler yoke 15 is arranged to embrace only the forward set of springs 21, which have a smaller capacity than the rear set of springs 21a. As shown the set of springs 21 comprises a number of metal plates 22 with three annuli 23, Fig. 3, of rubber projecting on either side thereof, such compound plates being spaced apart by additional metal plates 24. The springs 21a are of similar construction, but have additional bars 29a of rubber to increase the capacity thereof, while a larger number of unit plates 27 are assembled together whereby the gear provides a larger travel as well as greater capacity in buffing than in draught.
