Abstract
331,330. Glascodine, R. T., and Spencer Moulton &. Co., Ltd., G. May 14, 1929. Buffer and draw-gear.-In central buffing and draw-gear for railway vehicles mounted upon bogies, bulfing and draw springs located at the rear of the headstock 35 and in front of the bogie centre pivot 8 are associated with buffing and draw springs located at the rear of the pivot, means being provided to connect the two spring systems so that all the springs function together. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 a front draw-bar 1 is surrounded by springs 9, 10 associated with follower plates 11, 13, 14, 16, distance sleeves 17, 18 and stops 12, 15, and a rear draw-bar 7 is surrounded by a similar arrangement of springs 9, 10, the two systems being connected by crossheads 5 and tie-bars 6. In operation, during buffing or drawing, the springs 10 are compressed first until the pairs of sleeves 18 contact with each other, after which both the springs 9 and springs 10 are compressed in parallel. In a modification, Fig. 2, the two sets of springs 22, 22a are associated with follower plates 23 and stops 24 and are compressed throughout in parallel. The springs employed are preferably of the compound rubber and metal type. An additional spring 19 may be located in a casing 20 on the face of the headstock, and arranged to be compressed either directly by the coupler head 4 or through the medium of a compression plate or adapter 21.
