Abstract
542,256. Regulating air supply to furnaces. ENDEMANN, H. M., EVANS, S. D. O., and QUEENSMERE PROPERTIES & INVESTMENTS, Ltd. Sept. 21, 1940, No. 14443. [Class 51 (i)] In an underfeed stoker having a fuel conveyer and an air supplying fan the speeds of which can be varied while maintaining a constant speed ratio, automatically operated means are provided for reducing variations in the ratio of fuel supplied to air supplied which are consequent upon the changes which occur in the efficiency of the fan at different speeds. As shown in Fig. 2, the air conduit 5 delivering air from the fan to the furnace is provided with a damper 20 held in a horizontal position against a stop 23 by a counterweight 21. The damper is curved at the end facing the air current so that increase in the velocity of the air at higher speeds of the fan causes the damper to turn and reduce the air supply to the furnace. Instead of the damper being curved at one end, it may be arranged at a small angle to the horizontal. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the damper 20 is turned into the horizontal position by a motor 26 which is energized at low speeds of the fan motor.
