Abstract

656,081. Underfeed furnaces. BINNIE, A. Jan. 3, 1949, No. 37. [Class 51(i)] An underfeed furnace is provided with means for feeding and admixing oil fuel with pulverulent or small fuel in its passage through an underfeed stoker. A furnace chamber 10 is provided with an underfeed stoker comprising a screw conveyer 12 within a casing 13 and a hopper 11. Oil from a reservoir 17 passes under control of a cock through a pump 19 and along a pipe 20 to a nozzle 21 disposed in the casing 13 so that it is fed into the fuel while it is passing through the conveyer 12. An electric motor 23 drives the screw conveyer shaft 12a, the pump 19 and an air supply fan 24. The motion of the pump 19 and the shaft 12a may be intermittent. The electric motor 23 and consequently the pump 19 may be regulated by thermostatic devices placed in the furnace gases or in the steam or hot-water generated by the furnace.
