Abstract
541,327. Key locks. BRYAN, A. W., and MORRIS, H. W. Feb. 15, 1940, No. 2854. [Class 44] A lock freely operable by the correct key is arranged to trap any improper key used in attempt to effect unlocking. As shown the bolt B has the usual recess co-operating with the key, and projection b co-operating with locking levers C. A pivotally mounted block D has ward projections d which can be passed by the correct key F, Fig. 2. This block is held in normal position by one or more levers E with projection e resting in a V-notch d' in the block. An improper key inserted and rotated clockwise to withdraw the bolt engages one or more of the projections d and rocks block D anticlockwise until arrested by projection e snapping into a notch d<2> and locking the block against rotation in either direction, the key being thus trapped between projections d, d' on the block. Release of the improper key is effected by a special key inserted in a second key-hole, not shown, and serving to depress levers E to release block D. The lock shown has a rotatable curtain and barrel J held in normal position with respect to the main key-hole by detent K. Block d may have an insertion of insulating material on which, in normal position, a contact plunger, not shown, rests, the contact closing an alarm circuit by riding off the insulation when the block is rotated by an improper key.
