Locks, permutation; padlocks; stud-and-socket fastenings.-In a lock for preventing theft of cycles, the lock casing contains a spring-pressed sliding catch engaging a recessed pin inserted into a hole in the casing and blocked against release by one or more recessed rotatable discs. The pin may be secured to a chain fastened to the look casing at its other end, or the lock casing may be mounted on one leg of the fork and the pin slidably mounted on the other leg. The Figures show the chain arrangement with two blocking discs for the sliding catch. The casing 1 has a tubular part 2 in which is housed the catch 8 and spring 12, a second tubular part 3 at rightangles to the part 2 containing the rotatable discs 17, 18, and a part 6 into which the pin 7 is inserted. The discs 17, 18 are rotatably mounted on pins 20, 22 and are independently set by pointers 21, 24 moving over dials, to bring a recess 19 in each disc below a nose 9 on the catch, when this can be depressed against its spring 12 by the finger-piece 16 protruding from the cover 15. Such depression frees the notched end 26 of the pin 7 from the catch and allows its withdrawal from the casing. The end 26 of the pin and the part 25 of the catch are bevelled for automatic engagement, and false notches 27 are cut in the discs for preventing picking.
