[Class 44] The housing 10 of a padlock is recessed to receive a disc 14; both the housing and disc have slots 16, 18 respectively so located that a hasp 20 can be inserted and rotates the disc to close the opening in the housing. The disc 14 has a slot 22 across its width and a slot 24 extending across half its width. A lock cylinder 28 and tumblers 30 are inserted in the housing, a spring-loaded pin 34 engaging a counterbore preventing withdrawal, and the end of the cylinder is reduced to form a stop 26 that engages the slot 22 to lock the disc in the closed position and can be turned to enter the slot 24 when the disc may be moved to release the hasp. A further slot may be provided in the disc to permit locking in the open position. A projection 38 on the disc moves in a slot 40 in the housing to limit the movement of the disc. The cover 36 can be brazed or spotwelded to the housing before the lock cylinder 28 is inserted. In a modification, the lock cylinder is located in a position perpendicular to that shown in Fig. 1 and the locking member is in the form of a swinging lever. The disc 14 may be bored to receive discs of a permutation lock, each disc having a part removed so that they allow the disc 14 to rotate when turned to a certain aligned position. In a further modification, the spring-pressed tumblers may be housed in bores in the edge of the disc.
