Abstract
269,703. Olinger, J. Feb. 16, 1926. Locks, permutation; padlocks.-A lock comprises a locking bolt 4 urged by a spring 8 and carrying a forked member 20, 21, the legs of which must enter holes in a number of rotatable discs 29 - - 32 mounted on a cylindrical member 5 surrounding the bolt 4. Each disc 29 - - 32 is separately rotatable by a spring-pressed radial pin 39 having a T head which engages frictionally against the lock casing to hold the disc in set position. When the lock is released, these pins are turned and the heads are withdrawn by their springs into the casing. The proper setting of the discs 29 - - 32 brings radial holes 35 in the peripheries opposite the pins 34 on a lever 16 which is then rocked by the spring 14 to withdraw the tooth 15 from the bolt 4 which may then be moved and held by the click 13, the fork members 20, 21 entering the disc 29 - - 32 axially. The shield 26 is simultaneously rocked about its pivot so as to hide the figures on the rotatable discs. On the closing of the lock a one-way pawl 25 on an arm 23 of the forked member on the bolt replaces the tooth 15 and withdraws the pins 34 from the discs 29 - - 32 which are then reset by springs to their normal position. False shallow holes 35<1> are provided in addition to the holes 35 of effective depth in all the discs except the last on the right. The setting should be done from the left since if the right disc is set first the pins 34 on the lever 16 may engage with holes 35<1>. The lever can be released from such engagement by means of any instrument inserted in an oil hole 41 to depress the lever.
